STUDENTS of Chung Ling High School in Air Itam, Penang, can breathe a sigh of relief now that they can cross the busy Lorong Batu Lanchang safely.

A new pedestrian crossing has been installed across the road, near the back entrance of the school, to ensure the safety of students crossing the road.
School principal Ooi Poh Beng said the pedestrian crossing would help to improve the safety of the 2,700 students by helping to prevent accidents.

“So far nothing bad has happened, and we want to keep it that way. These traffic lights will help to keep our students safe,” he said.

The pedestrian crossing, built last month, was officially opened by Air Itam assemblyman Wong Hon Wai on Tuesday.

“I received letters from the Chung Ling High School Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) in 2011 requesting this pedestrian crossing,” said Wong.

He said the pedestrian crossing cost RM30,000 and would also benefit nearby schools such as SM Teknik Batu Lanchang, SM Vokasional Batu Lanchang and SM Georgetown.
